Federal Government Affairs
Tahoe Chamber’s top federal priority is reauthorization of the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act (LTRA). To this end, the Chamber is an active member of the Lake Tahoe Partnership, a network of Tahoe organizations that advocate for Tahoe at the Federal level. We support the US Senate’s version of the bill, S. 1724, sponsored by Nevada US Senator Dean Heller and co-sponsored by Senator’s Harry Reid, Dianne Feinstein, and Barbara Boxer. S. 1724 was part of a package of restoration bills approved by the Senate September 15 (on a vote of 95-3) as part of the Senate version of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2016 (S. 2848).
The US House of Representatives approved its version of WRDA (H.R. 5303) on September 28. Only one of the four restoration bills in the Senate WRDA is in the House WRDA (not LTRA). Accordingly, our focus during the conference committee process to negotiate the differences in the Senate and House bills is to ensure the LTRA is in the final version of WRDA.
